Mitomycin is an antitumor antibiotic used specifically in the treatment of cancer. Mitomycin is an intravenous (IV) medicine that interferes with the multiplication of cancer cells. The type and extent of a cancer determines the exact dose and schedule for this medicine. To prevent bladder cancer from recurring, mitomycin is given through a urinary catheter directly into the bladder (intravesically) rather than intravenously. Avastin™ (bevacizumab) is being used by retinal specialists (as an off-label use) in the treatment of wet macular degeneration. Wet macular degeneration or wet AMD is a serious, vision-threatening condition. In wet AMD abnormal blood vessels behind the retina start to grow in the area of the retina known as the macula. These blood vessels leak blood and fluid causing damage to the macula and loss of vision.
